A1: Beyond ADA – What is really needed to make housing accessible

The American with Disabilites Act, and other legislation, covers the minimal needs for accessibility and has not kept up with technology.  This workshop will focus on issues the ADA does not address including but not limited to operable windows and side mounted sinks as well as new technologies such as remote controlled doors, controlling locks, thermostats, and appliances with mobile devices.

C2: Cost Effective Strategies Developing Affordable Housing

The panel presentation will discuss and share examples of lessons learned from approximately 100 years of combined presenter experiences in a diverse range of industries.  They will present a proven method for working together through the design process and idea generation through the construction project completion.

In a word, it’s all about “Aggregation” – when the combination of projects,4% and/or 9% or other tools, make projects more likely to be feasible and financed than doing them separately, and less likely to depend upon scarce capital resources.

E10: Housing for New Pennsylvanians: Planning for the Housing and Services Needs of Immigrants

Municipalities across Pennsylvania have immigrant residents seeking to establish themselves personally and professionally in their new communities.  However, there are often a variety of obstacles that make it difficult for newer arrivals to succeed, from language barriers to professional licensing requirements.  This workshop will focus on the housing and supportive service needs of immigrants, with an emphasis on the economic, educational, legal and other tools that can help individuals and families achieve upward mobility.
